Embrave: Home of Change
This beautiful artwork was designed by Erika of Inkscrpt Illustration & Calligraphy and inspired by imagery shared by survivors of gender-based violence accessing supports and services from Embrave.
Erika incorporated many key elements and themes that were identified by survivors during art-based therapy sessions in her design. The mountains and sun symbolize overcoming challenges and the fresh start that accompanies the concept of a new day, and the people holding hands symbolizing the community and connection that is built at Embrave.
The red hand symbolizes the commitment that Embrave has made in action and advocacy related to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls across Canada.
The figure is facing right and upwards, as if looking up to the sky to symbolize hope, change, strength, positivity and a new dawn for survivors.
The florals and greenery were chosen with intention, as the lavender, calendula and olive leaf are symbols of peace, hope, empowerment and change.
These florals are “sprouting” or “growing” from the head of the figure, representing experiences that are part of us, but do not define us. A reminder that we can overcome our challenges and embrace our bravery.
All funds raised from the purchase of Embrave's merchandise will support our emergency shelters for survivors of gender-based violence and their children in our community.
